Senior Mechanical / Electromechanical Engineer

Location: Staffordshire
Working Pattern: Full-time
Salary: £55,000–£65,000
Sector: Engineering & Manufacturing

About the Role

Are you an experienced Mechanical or Electromechanical Engineer looking for a hands-on role where you can apply your technical expertise to complex machinery, product development and engineering improvements?

We are recruiting on behalf of a specialist engineering business seeking a Senior Mechanical / Electromechanical Engineer to join its small, collaborative engineering team. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who enjoys getting hands-on with machinery, investigating technical problems and developing practical, reliable solutions.

Working across engineering, electrical, manufacturing, quality and service functions, you will play an important role in supporting existing products, improving machinery performance and contributing to new and ongoing product development.

The successful candidate will have a strong practical understanding of mechanical systems and electromechanical equipment, alongside experience in troubleshooting, root-cause analysis and engineering design. Strong SolidWorks skills are also important, particularly when working with complex assemblies and production drawings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Investigate complex mechanical and electromechanical issues, identifying root causes and implementing effective solutions.

  • Support product design, development, sustaining engineering and improvements to existing products.

  • Carry out practical machinery troubleshooting, testing, strip-downs and failure investigations.

  • Apply knowledge of rotating machinery, mechanical drive systems and vibration-related issues.

  • Produce and maintain detailed engineering designs, complex assemblies and production drawings using SolidWorks.

  • Support design transfer, manufacturing processes and continuous product improvement.

  • Work closely with electrical, manufacturing, quality and service teams to resolve technical challenges.

  • Contribute to product reliability, performance and ongoing engineering development.

  • Share technical knowledge, support colleagues and contribute to a positive team environment.

  • Apply engineering principles across a range of products, systems and technologies.

About You

We are looking for an experienced engineer with a practical, hands-on approach and the confidence to investigate complex machinery and resolve challenging technical problems.

You will ideally have experience in several of the following areas:

  • Mechanical and electromechanical machinery.

  • Rotating machinery, induction motors and variable frequency drive (VFD) systems.

  • Mechanical components, including shafts, bearings, belts, pulleys and couplings.

  • Vibration, imbalance, resonance and cyclic loading.

  • Mechanical mechanisms, such as crank, cam, eccentric or Scotch-yoke systems.

  • Hydraulic or other high-force mechanical systems.

  • Cryogenic or low-temperature equipment.

  • Machinery testing, strip-downs, fault-finding and root-cause investigations.

  • Product development, legacy product support and sustaining engineering.

  • Manufacturing engineering and design transfer.

  • SolidWorks, including complex assemblies and production drawings.

Experience with industrial machinery, scientific or laboratory equipment, pumps, compressors, automation, process equipment, test equipment, white goods or special-purpose machinery would be particularly relevant.

You do not need experience across every technical area listed. We are interested in candidates with a strong engineering foundation, relevant practical experience and the ability to apply their knowledge to different technical challenges.

Alongside your technical ability, you will be a collaborative team player with strong communication skills, a methodical approach to problem-solving and a willingness to share knowledge and support other engineers.

Qualifications and Experience

A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering, Mechatronics or a related discipline would be beneficial but is not essential.

Candidates with an HNC, HND, recognised engineering apprenticeship or equivalent practical experience will also be considered, provided they can demonstrate substantial hands-on experience with complex machinery.

Practical engineering capability, troubleshooting experience and the ability to work effectively within a collaborative team are key to this position.

What's on Offer?

  • Competitive salary of £55,000–£65,000, depending on experience.

  • The opportunity to work on complex mechanical and electromechanical systems.

  • A varied, hands-on engineering role covering troubleshooting, product development and continuous improvement.

  • The opportunity to contribute technical expertise within a small, collaborative engineering team.

  • Scope to apply and develop your skills across a range of products and technologies.

If you are a technically minded engineer who enjoys solving complex problems, working hands-on with machinery and contributing to reliable engineering solutions, we would be keen to hear from you.
