We are looking for a driven and commercially focused External Sales Representative to join a well-established steel stockholding and processing business. This role is ideal for an experienced field-based sales professional who enjoys managing existing accounts, developing new business, and promoting value-added engineering and processing services.
A little bit about the role

Manage and develop existing customer accounts, identifying opportunities to increase spend.

Proactively generate new business and open new customer accounts within the assigned territory.

Sell stocked steel materials alongside higher-margin processed services including saw cutting, laser and plasma cutting, press braking, and tube laser work.

Promote value-added processing capabilities and increase the volume of processed work.

Educate customers on new processing solutions and capabilities.

Work closely with the internal sales team using the company CRM system (with a future transition to Salesforce).

Operate predominantly in the field, visiting customers four days per week, with one office-based day for planning, administration, and internal liaison.

Manage a territory primarily covering Staffordshire and Cheshire, with scope to expand into Shropshire and Derbyshire.

Consider one-off job opportunities where appropriate, based on delivery constraints and operational feasibility.

Provide general office sales cover when required during holidays.
Essential:

Proven sales experience within engineering, steel, or metals.

Strong account management and new business development skills.

Ability to understand technical requirements and interpret customer drawings.

Self-motivated, organised, and comfortable working independently in a field-based role.

Confident communicator with a professional and customer-focused approach.
Desirable:

Knowledge of CAD or experience reading technical drawings.
