Finance Assistant

Monday to Friday 8am-4pm or 9am-5pm
Salary:
£27,000 - £30,000 per annum DOE
Are you a detail-oriented finance professional who enjoys keeping processes running smoothly and supporting a busy team? We are looking for a Finance Assistant to join our friendly and dynamic Corporate Services team. This role is perfect for someone who thrives on accuracy, enjoys variety, and wants to make a real impact on financial operations and HR processes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain accurate financial records, including sales and purchase ledgers, ensuring all queries and irregularities are resolved promptly
- Update budgets monthly, generate reports, and support journal checks against variances
- Assist with budget preparation, cash flow forecasting, accounts preparation, VAT returns, and P11Ds
- Produce and review key financial reports, including membership figures, KPIs, outstanding invoices, purchase orders, and year-end reconciliations
- Supervise and reconcile GoCardless and Stripe portals, ensuring smooth operation
- Prepare monthly journals for petty cash, accruals, prepayments, and deferred income
- Monitor VAT and nominal coding accuracy in accordance with cost centers and project codes
- Conduct monthly project reconciliations, balance sheet reconciliations, and review debtors
- Support payroll processes, including journals, staff benefits, pension returns, and Employment Hero integration
- Approve bank payments, staff expenses, and Barclaycard invoices accurately and on time
- Assist with general Finance and Corporate Services administration, including maintaining digital filing, process notes, and accreditation compliance
- Support HR and governance tasks as required, including updating employee records and assisting during nomination periods
Ideal Candidate Profile:
- Previous experience in finance, payroll, or accounting administration
- Experience of Xero is essential
- Strong numerical accuracy and attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines efficiently
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative, team-focused approach
- Comfortable handling confidential financial and HR information
- Proactive, organised, and eager to contribute to process improvements
