General Manager

We are looking for a strategic, commercially aware, and highly organised General Manager to support key operational functions across the business. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys working at a senior level, thrives in a varied operational environment, and is confident leading cross-functional teams while driving compliance, cost efficiency, and business continuity.

A little bit about the role

  • Lead non-sales operational projects including property management, facilities, leases, and Health & Safety compliance.

  • Manage company and group policies and procedures to ensure consistent standards across the business.

  • Oversee non-product and IT procurement, identifying cost-saving opportunities.

  • Ensure effective business continuity plans are in place and regularly reviewed.

  • Maintain oversight of all subscriptions, trademark registrations, and intellectual property records, including renewals and liaison with external parties.

  • Provide line management to teams across Quality, Facilities, and Health & Safety.

  • Manage all Group insurance policies and claims, including Marine Cargo, Logistics, Cyber Cover, Commercial Combined, and Employers’ Liability.

  • Oversee legal matters within operational remit, working with external legal counsel where required.

  • Lead contract governance for operational agreements including SLAs, escalations, and performance monitoring.

  • Oversee contract variations and approval processes across H&S, courier, facilities, and estates contracts.

  • Partner with internal stakeholders to ensure operational contracts meet business needs and regulatory standards.

  • Support high-level courier contract negotiations in partnership with the Supply Chain Manager.

  • Oversee the Quality Management System (QMS) and maintain ISO 9001 certification, working closely with the ISO 14001 lead.

  • Coordinate the use of SharePoint as a core information and governance platform.

  • Project manage cross-functional initiatives, ensuring delivery on time and within budget.

  • Coordinate RFI responses, supplier surveys, and customer information requests.

  • Manage key relationships with insurers, legal advisors, contractors, and consultants.

  • Support tender and framework submissions, maintaining consistent documentation quality.

  • Represent the company at industry events and networking opportunities to stay ahead of regulatory and operational trends.

Essential:

  • Degree-level education or equivalent experience in a quality or operations-based role.

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in non-sales contract management or a strategic operations position.

  • Strong understanding of legal frameworks, ISO standards, insurance governance, and contract models.

  • Financially astute with experience in project management and process implementation.

  • Advanced IT skills including Excel, Word, Outlook; SharePoint experience preferred.

  • Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.

  • Strategic, analytical mindset with the ability to make confident decisions under pressure.

  • Highly organised, with excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
