Lab Technician

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Laboratory Technician to join a well-established manufacturing business. Working within a busy operations team, you will be responsible for carrying out laboratory testing, quality control and product verification, ensuring products meet specification, regulatory requirements and customer expectations.

This is a hands-on laboratory role requiring a strong understanding of analytical testing, quality management systems and laboratory best practice.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out laboratory testing and analysis on raw materials, work in progress and finished products.
  • Record, interpret and verify test results against product specifications.
  • Perform quality control checks in accordance with company procedures and quality standards.
  • Maintain, calibrate and troubleshoot laboratory equipment, arranging repairs where required.
  • Develop, validate and maintain analytical testing methods.
  • Prepare technical documentation, including product certification and supporting compliance records.
  • Produce and maintain Safety Data Sheets and other regulatory documentation.
  • Ensure laboratory equipment, reference materials and consumables are adequately stocked.
  • Support compliance with ISO quality management systems and laboratory procedures.
  • Assist with internal audits, quality investigations and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Review production records and authorise product release where appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate laboratory records and testing documentation.
  • Work closely with production, operations and other internal departments to resolve technical and quality-related issues.
  • Ensure all work is completed safely and in accordance with Health & Safety procedures.
  • Maintain a clean, organised and safe laboratory environment.
  • Support continuous improvement across laboratory processes and testing methods.
  • Carry out general laboratory administration duties as required.

About You

The successful candidate will have:

  • A degree in Chemistry or a related scientific discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
  • Previous experience within an analytical laboratory, quality control or manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of laboratory testing techniques and analytical instrumentation.
  • Experience maintaining and calibrating laboratory equipment.
  • Excellent attention to detail and record-keeping skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Good communication skills with the ability to work across multiple departments.
  • Confidence interpreting technical data and making quality-related decisions.
  • Competent IT skills, including Microsoft Office and experience using business systems or ERP software.
  • The ability to prioritise workloads and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience working within an ISO 9001 environment.
  • Knowledge of ISO 17025 standards.
  • Experience developing or validating analytical methods.
  • Understanding of regulatory documentation and Safety Data Sheets.
  • Experience within a manufacturing or industrial laboratory environment.
